How To Set + Accomplish Your 2022 SMART Goals

Ever since I can remember, I have always been one to set goals. I find that writing down intentions, creating vision boards, and planning out where I want to be in 3, 5, 10+ years always excites me. So I’m sure you’re not surprised I am a huge believer in New Years Resolutions. There is just something about the start of a new year that feels so refreshing. I know you can change your lifestyle and start adopting good habits any day of the year, but I find it easiest to do whenever January rolls around.

When setting goals, there are so many ways to go about it. I know people who set “yearly” goals, “quarterly” goals, “monthly” goals, etc. to help stay on track. I love this mentality and aim to make my intentions ones that I can continuously track and work on each day to better my entire year.

We may already be a few days into 2022, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create goals for yourself right now. Today. As we’ve step into a fresh year, I’ve chosen goals that I feel will propel me into the person I want to be this year and for the years to come. Check them out below.

So far this year, I feel as if I have been doing great! I attribute this success to three major things I started implementing this year. Here is what has helped me so far:

1. Physically writing my goals down on paper and having that paper in my line of vision daily. Mine are written on the first page of my journal so I can’t help but read through them when I sit down each morning to map out my day. This has had a major impact! ⁣

2. Focusing on one goal from several different categories. All of the categories (physical, mental, spiritual, personal, relationships, and vocational) relate back to my big picture goals for 2022 and are areas in my life I know I need improvement on.

3. Making SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely). It does you no good to say, “I’ll launch my blog this year!” or “I’ll find a job I love soon!” You need to break down each goal so you can keep track of your progress and head in the right direction. For example, let’s say you want to visit all 50 states by June 2022. Amazing! You now have a timeline. Your goal could look like, “I will visit all 50 states by June 2022 by using the airline miles I’ve accumulated, collaborating with hotels, and booking each trip 2 weeks prior to help out cost.” It’s so specific and attainable, you’ll have no choice but to make it happen!

Due to lack of space, the goals in the chart above aren’t necessarily SMART goals but you better believe I have broken them all down to ensure success. Overtime, I truly believe these habits will allow for my overall well-being to improve. It’s also important to write your goals in present tense and to actually take action. Instead of saying “I’m going to move 30 minutes a day,” (like above) try writing “I will work out from 5:30-6pm daily.” Or, “I will get 7+ hours of sleep” instead say “I will climb into bed at 10:30pm each night and sleep until at least 5:30am.” Again, SMART goals!
